COACHES CORNER

Dear Coaches, parents, players, officials, and all other hockey enthusiasts,

Welcome to the RMHS Coaches Corner! In our Coaches Corner, you will find tips on coaching for on-ice and off-ice skill development designed by many RMHS professional staff and other hockey greats. When visiting our skill development library, ensure you have a pad of paper and a pencil, as you will have access to a great deal of hockey information, and we want you to take as much advantage of this resource as possible.

The Player Evaluation & Tracking System, designed by RMHS and for RMHS students exclusively, will allow players and their parents to track their progress over the years they attend an RMHS camp. Specifically designed drills that enable us to properly test a player's improvement and athleticism and compare those results to other players from around the world allow us to track and report their improvements over time quantifiably. In addition, by comparing your stats to national and international players' averages, you can determine how to stack up against your peers. This will enable us to provide quantitative feedback on where they are developmentally as an athlete, where they need to be, and what they need to do to get there.

The interactive RMHS Drill Database is another great reason to make the RMHS Skill Development Library your official coaching resource. Feel free to use any drill we have, or add one of your favorites to the database alongside drills from the rest of the RMHS staff and our NHL, college, Junior A, and hockey director staff drills.

Have you ever dreamed of owning and managing your rink? The last component of the coaches' library is the Rink Development & Management Resource Center. This section is for those who want to take your love for the game to the next level. You will find links to several websites to help you pursue your dreams of owning and managing your rink!

Thank you for visiting the RMHS Coaches Corner! We hope you find the information we have provided educational and helpful as you pursue your passion for hockey.

Yours in hockey,

Coach Smitty & The RMHS Staff

HOCKEY 360

On-Ice

Ice Awareness and Vision are so crucial to becoming an Elite hockey player. Players at the highest levels make vital mistakes (career-ending) by simply watching the puck and not what and who is away from the puck. Hockey is a crazy fast game, as we all know, which is why we all love it. Most instruction and coaching in today's hockey world will miss one key piece to the game—vision and Awareness, or what we call Hockey 360.

The ability to look around and be aware of everything on the ice surface. Always be a step ahead mentally of your opponent and create time and space for you and your teammates with simple visualization techniques. It is almost as if you make everything become slow motion in the game and break down your every next move. You can always know where your opponent is and what they are doing next—complete vision and awareness around your body 360 degrees. A player needs to learn this, and at RMHS, you will. There is more to us than just running flow drills and miniature games. If you want the ultimate development experience, you must attend a summer RMHS Skill Development Camp to get the whole experience. Our training methods are proven to make players excel at the levels they currently play at and even train them to become a player at the next level.

Hockey 360 Off-Ice

RMHS strives to create the best possible environment for all our students and families on and off the ice. The RMHS staff members all come from very experienced playing and coaching backgrounds. They are dedicated to ensuring all the families involved with our programs get the proper education for their children. The RMHS staff is known for developing young athletes and giving them the tools to learn to get to the next level of their game. This would include just improving within the level they currently play at or getting to the next level or even three above what they currently are playing at.

The RMHS staff is very proud that hundreds of alumni currently play at the AAA, AA, Junior, College, and pro levels. They would be very excited to say that RMHS gave them a great foundation both on and off-ice early in their careers. Our staff is also committed to consulting with families to ensure they get the correct advice and are steered down the right path in their hockey careers, both on and off-ice.

Whether you know about other hockey camps, specific coaching techniques, hockey politics, hockey at the next level, career guidance, systems knowledge, equipment questions, safety awareness, or you want to talk hockey, our staff is committed to being there for you!
